TREASURE – Day 11 of The One Word Devotional

Today’s word is TREASURE.

There are many things you can do to “process” this word today:

Think on it.

Look it up in Scripture if you choose. An easy way to look up biblical texts on the topic is to go to biblegateway.com and do a search on the word.

Discuss it with others.

Google it.

I’m sure you can think of others. Whatever you choose to do to process this word today, please check back in at the end of the day and let’s have a discussion about your thoughts, experiences, etc.

  1. A treasure or to treasure? That is my question. In Luke’s gospel Mary often treasures what she knows about Jesus. Later Jesus himself would preach on the difference between heavenly treasure and worldly treasure. It is a word that is jam packed. Excellent choice Lisa. 🙂 I relate to Mary’s use of the word. I treasure the moments spent with my children.

  2. Hey, everyone who’s been involved in this study – just wondering if you’ve taken the time to check out each other’s blogs? I’m finding much value in what each of you have to say and think you’d all be great friends. 🙂

  3. Treasure. A beautiful word! My first thought was that I’m treasured by God and I’m God’s treasure! The verb and the noun! Even saying ‘God treasures me’ brings tears to my eyes. It means I can relax no matter what happens next or what just happened. I don’t have to prove anything to God; God watches my back; observes and loves every part of me. It also means God isn’t swayed by whether others treasure me or not. God holds me dear; guards me without controlling me; keeps me close and in sight no matter what happens to me; delights in me every time I show up. No direct or indirect messages that convey I’ve talked too much, showed up too often, am boring or dull or anything but treasured. Truthfully, I can’t even imagine this in real time. I just know it’s true, and that it softens me on the inside whenever I ponder it.

  4. When I hear the word treasure in a secular setting I immediately get a picture in my head of a pirate chest filled with coins and jewels! And honestly, I don’t know that owning one of these is a great desire of mine (however I’m sure I could find a good use for it).

What would I consider my treasure? Gosh, I have to really think about it. If my home burned down tomorrow, I pray that my family would be safe — including the dogs. There are things that I might want to grab if I had time, but honestly there isn’t one thing in the house that I can’t live without. I have lots of family photos and I’d hate to lose them, but they are just snapshots of memories that are already in my heart. I have lots of cool toys, but they are easily replaced,. Even historical momentos of relatives don’t really mean that much to me. The antique bonnet and wool carding tool are cool, but I don’t really know the person they belonged to and honestly they are not really any different from those I’d see in a museum.

So I guess I”m happy to say I realized my treasure probably is in Heaven. I know that God will provide what I need (even if that is death) in his love. Now, I know I don’t spend all my time reading the Bible or even thinking about God, but I’ve learned in the past week that I can handle a severe blow because I know I am His and He is mine. Despite the insanity of the world around me, I have a peace that I can’t understand that whispers “it will be ok.”

That’s where I am today. Tomorrow will probably feel different, but I pray that I am always able to come back to this place of peace even when I can’t comprehend the situation.
