Today’s word is CONFIDENCE.

There are many things you can do to “process” this word today:

    • Abi, I’ve never heard that song, but think I will try to look it up. It is amazing how a song sticks with you. Thanks for the encouragement to remember how mighty our God is. Couple that thought with assurance that He’s working on our behalf and it is a very powerful thought.

    • I love this thought, Michelle! Confidence in Christ does lead to other good things because it helps us to step out in faith to do things we’d never imagine we could do on our own. Brings to mind another of my favorite verses. Though it doesn’t have the word “confidence” in it, it sure brings a lot of confidence to my heart.

      Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

  4. My faith has been such a journey. I am a women that stands by grace and I am continually amazed at His work in me. On those days that I do not necessarily “feel” confident, my heart relies on the truth of scripture.. “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil.1:6 NIV). In that I am confident!

  5. Hi, Lisa.
    I just had a brief conversation with a friend about raising children. Mine are adults now, and what I heard from my friend reminded me of something–which led to the word for today just popping out of my mouth. Amazing.

    Here’s what I imagined many times when my children–now adults–were going through tough times: I’m standing in front of God, holding in my hands one of my children. My arms are stretched out toward God, whose outstretched hands are waiting, empty. I put my child in God’s hands, drop my arms to my side, turn and walk away. In love, and with faith and confidence (!) in God alone.

    I learned this from friends when I was going through tough times. Looking back, I know God did a better job than I could ever have done! But I didn’t know that then, so the confidence was accompanied by tears and faith against all odds. So Tammy’s reference to Phil. 1:6 could also be read, I think, as a description of confidence about God’s good work in people I love and care (too) deeply about–to the point of trying to do God’s work on God’s behalf.

    • That is wonderful imagery, Elouise. Love that the word for the day came into play in the conversation with your friend. When talking with people who desire to help those they love, but don’t know how, I often end our time together with prayer and almost always my closing to the prayer is something like:

      Lord, as much as we love this person, we know you love them even more. For that reason, we are confident you are working on their behalf in ways we cannot imagine. Help us to rest in that fact, Lord, and entrust them into your hands.

      I think I will share your imagery the next time such a conversation arises.

  8. I’ve been reading several Amish novels lately, and they have made me appreciate the confidence we can have that Jesus has done the work so we can go to Heaven.

    16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

    I can never be good enough to get to Heaven on my own, but God has given me confidence that Jesus HAS done the work, and I will be there only by his grace. It provides an amazing sense of peace even on the worst of days.

    • I have read this text many times, but I’m struck by the phrase “we will have confidence on the day of judgment.” Wow! I’ve never put “confidence” in the context of the day of judgment before. That is one high level of confidence. Awesome that He’s made that possible for us. Thanks for sharing.
